Once again Nethermoss Archers make it into the Clout rankings. For the first time FITA/Metric Clout has been recognised along with the normal Imperial rankings. Nethermoss Clout enthusiasts, Husband and Wife Longbow Archers Tracey, & Ian Scott along with junior Jack Grogan were ranked in both categories. In the newly recognised FITA/Metric rankings Tracey was ranked 4th, and Ian was ranked 10th. Our junior clout competitor Jack was ranked in 2nd position.
Moving to the normally chosen Imperial rankings Tracey once again proved that she is one of the top Clout Archers in Britain by being ranked 3rd. Husband Ian did not fare as well as Tracey, but still managed in gaining very creditable place ranking of 22nd. Jack managed to gain the position of highest ranked junior Recurve Archer for the third year in succession.
Next year’s ranking system will be revised to be a combination of both FITA/Metric, and Imperial rounds to create one ranking. Competitors will have to shoot a minimum of two FITA/Metric, and three Imperial Clout rounds to be within the ranking system.
A heavy mist blanketed the grounds of Rawdon meadow the home ground of the Bronte Archery Club. It was the venue of the annual GNAS clout championships, fortunately the mist soon dissipated revealing a ground that looked like it was covered in a light frost, but on closer inspection was found to be thousands of dew covered finely woven spiders webs. Nethermoss clout Archers Tracey & Ian Scott (Longbows) along with a heavily flu ridden Jack Grogan (Recurve) attended the shoot. 137 Archers were in attendance, and all enjoyed the mild pleasant conditions in contrast to yet another outdoor season of poor weather conditions for archery.
Ian as normal was enjoying the shoot regardless of what he was scoring.
Jacks being unwell showed in his scores. Scoring his worst score ever at his distance, over 50 points short to that of which he normally scores, he only managed to secure 3rd place. To add insult to injury, he got the perfect clout when his arrow went through the base of flag pole with the point sticking into the soil on its exit! Unfortunately the best clout was awarded earlier in the day.
Tracey was scoring very well, often getting all arrows within the scoring zone, which is no easy task particularly when shooting a Longbow. Her score was so good, beating all others by a large margin, that it won her the revered title of ‘The National Lady’s Longbow Champion’, a title which she now holds for twelve months.
Variable winds and rain plagued the Cheshire Archery Associations Tri- Clout shoot held at Neston Company of Archer’s grounds. That didn’t stop the enthusiasm of those archers competing in this major event in the clout calendar. Nethermoss clout archers Ian & Tracey Scott along with Jack Grogan competed in all three days with varying success.
Day two of the event was a one way double clout incorporating the Cheshire Clout Championships. The weather was similar to the previous days but with slightly less rain. Tracey shot quite well ending up being placed third on the day. Ian wasn’t having too good a time score wise, but he was enjoying the shoot nevertheless. Jack finished the shoot with a high score that won him the highest scoring visitor’s trophy, and taking him even closer to the supreme champion trophy.
Day one was a two way double clout in which all the archers struggled against the fairly strong winds when shooting on the return ends of the six dozen arrows, constantly having to adjust their site marks to suit the conditions. Despite the varying winds and occasional bursts of heavy rain Longbow Archers Ian & Tracey did quite well, with Tracey winning the Lady’s first place medal. Jack also did well, and was presented with the first place junior recurve medal. This put both Tracey and Jack in good positions to win the overall supreme champion trophy’s at the end of the three day shoot.
next award to be presented. Unfortunately Tracey's name was not the name called, she had just missed out by a few points from winning it, resulting in her winning second place overall.
Ian, Tracey, and Jack once again flew the flag for Nethermoss.
The final day (day three) of the shoot was a FITA/Metrics round, and as with the other two days of the competition was once again plagued by poor weather conditions. As well as the wind and rain, it was also quite cold. These poor conditions continued throughout the shoot and into the final presentations. The first part of the presentation was for the individual rounds of the day, and although Tracey felt that she didn’t do too well on the day, she was awarded the second place
medal. Jack once again came first and was presented with the medal. The second part of the presentation was for the supreme champion awards; Jack was the first to be called up to collect his supreme champion trophy, a trophy he has now been awarded for two years in succession.
The lady’s Longbow supreme trophy was the

Another of our Longbow archers, Dave Wright, also represented Nethermoss on the day. Although new to Clout shooting he attained a reasonable score which put him mid field within the large entry of Longbow archers.

Four of our longbow members entered the BLBS Lancashire Clout meeting, Dave, Barry, Ian and Tracey.
This shoot is run under BLBS rules, and the ladies shoot 120 yards to the mens 180 yards. A good day was had by all in the glorious weather. Our lady archer Tracey won the ladies longbow medal by coming first with a score of 105, which doubled her score last year. She also won the shoot off by ends, so came home with two of the societies medals.
