July, Outdoors Handicap Shoot

Saturday 10th July gave us our 3rd Handicap shoot of the season. The weather was overcast and warm with a variable westerly wind. Three different Rounds where shot to accommodate all shooting abilities; 720 Olympic, Short National and a Junior National Rounds. So as not to be left out, and to experience tournament conditions, our novice members shot their 252 Certificate Rounds. Five Club Records were broken or established (see Club Records tab).

The turnout was low due to a local tournament, annual holidays and a school carnival that kept most of our Juniors away.

- Pat Moss (LB) took first place shooting a Short National with a score of 195, Club Record adjusted by handicap to 1479;

- Second placed was Tom Ward (JBC) shooting a Short National with a score of 566, Club Record  adjusted to 1476;

- Third placed was Ian Halewood (C) shooting a 720 with a score of 607 adjusted to 1452.

Nethermoss Indoor Championships 27th March 2010

Marking the end of its indoor season competitions, Nethermoss Archers held their indoor championships at its indoor venue of Edge Hill University. The relaxed, easy going, atmosphere of the competition was in contrast to the almost regimental conditions held at some open competitions that many of the Nethermoss Archers had attended over the past few months. As normal the scoreboard was abused by nameless archers who kept rewriting ridiculous scores in a vain attempt to psyche out their opponents. It’s a good job that Ian Halewood (records officer) ignored these shenanigans as he collated the scores.

Scores deciphered, it was on to the presentations next. The club president Alan Dobson MBE, was Lord Paramount, and he had kindly made two trophies for the Longbow winners. Once the presentations were over, it was off to the pub for those who wanted to celebrate their wins or drown their sorrows for not doing so good (or any other excuse for a relaxing drink together)!

April Monthly Indoor Handicap Shoot

As we had some extra weeks indoors, it was decided to hold another Handicap Shoot with a difference. All archers donated £1 into the pot for the winner, on Handicap, to take all.

Shooting a Portsmouth Round, and new to a longbow, Dave Wright scooped the pot (£21) with a score of 322 adjusted by handicap to 1543.

  - Second place was John Hale (LB) with a score of 246 adjusted to 1479

  - Third place was Paul Blundell (R) with a score of 456 adjusted to 1457.

The club donated a hip flask, Bowmore Malt and tee shirt to Dave Ball to celebrate his 40th birthday together with a birthday cake.
